Join us for our next webinar on March 10th, 2026, presenting Trends in Latin American Politics: Shifting Alliances in the New World (Dis)Order, edited by Peter Birle (IAI–Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut) and Claudia Zilla (SWP–German Institute for International and Security Affairs). The volume examines how the erosion of the international liberal order, China’s growing global influence, and the United States’ changing role under Donald Trump have reshaped Latin America’s domestic politics and external alignments. The editors will present the book and their respective chapters, followed by a discussion with Federico Merke (Universidad de San Andrés). The session will be moderated by Andrea Bianculli (IBEI).

A Green Transition for Whom?
Colombia and the European Green Deal
Can the EU's deforestation regulation deliver climate action without deepening rural inequality?
The EUDR demands traceability and verified deforestation-free production from Colombian coffee and cocoa producers — but institutional fragmentation, informal land tenure, and limited rural infrastructure mean compliance burdens fall hardest on smallholders. Without differentiated support and inclusive implementation, a well-intentioned climate policy risks becoming a new mechanism of exclusion for the most vulnerable communities.
