Call for Papers:
Countering Populism: Advancing Liberal Democracy and Human Rights across Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean
This interdisciplinary conference is part of EULAS, the EU–Latin America Academic Synergies Jean Monnet Network, which focuses on research, innovation, and collaboration among Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean (LAC). The conference, hosted by the University San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), seeks to explore strategies for countering populism by promoting democracy and the rule of law across various institutional frameworks and policy environments, favouring analytical exchange, mutual learning and rigorous cross-regional comparisons between LAC and European cases.
Both Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean have long experience with populist leaders of both the left and the right. The rise of far right and illiberal movements has similarly tested democratic institutions and norms in both regions.
