Prof. Bruno Theodoro Luciano (UNU-CRIS / São Paulo State University – UNESP, Brazil) discusses the concept of Liquid Regionalism and how it captures the fluid, flexible, and shifting nature of regional initiatives in the Americas.
We were also delighted to welcome Prof. Andrea Ribeiro Hoffmann (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro – PUC-Rio, Brazil), who provided expert commentary and thoughtful reflections on this innovative framework for understanding Latin American and comparative regionalism.
The Political Economy of Industry Organizations and Mercosur's North-South Trade Negotiations

In this session, Prof. Pose-Ferraro examines how the political economy dynamics of Brazil and Argentina have shaped the positions of Mercosur’s two largest economies in their trade negotiations with the European Union. The discussion focuses on how industrial sector preferences — particularly those of the distributive “losers” of the agreement — have influenced governmental stances toward a trade partnership with Europe over two decades of negotiations.
We were also delighted to welcome Prof. María Victoria Álvarez (National University of Rosario), who provided expert commentary and critical reflections on Prof. Pose-Ferraro’s research.
Rethinking EU–LAC Relations Ahead of the CELAC–EU Summit 2025 | EULAS Network @ Casa Amèrica Catalunya
On September 16, 2025, a live roundtable was held at Casa Amèrica Catalunya, Barcelona, exploring the current state and future of EU–Latin America relations. Experts discussed key political, social, and economic challenges ahead of the EU–CELAC Summit 2025, offering insights into opportunities for deeper cooperation.
