Call for Chapter Submissions

Edited Volume: Migration, Displacement and Belonging in Latin America and the Caribbean: Regional Realities and European Connections

Editors: Nicole Roberts and Rómulo Guédez Fernández

The editors invite submissions for an interdisciplinary edited volume emerging from the International Conference on Migrants and Refugees in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean, held at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine (8–10 December 2025). The volume seeks to build on the conference’s momentum by bringing together scholarship, policy analysis, community-engaged research, and creative inquiry to advance a deeper understanding of migration, displacement, and belonging across the region.

Caribbean migration continues to unfold within a complex nexus of geopolitical tensions, economic inequalities, linguistic diversity, legal precarity, and cultural negotiation. Trinidad and Tobago, as an increasingly important receiving state, offers a critical site from which to examine these dynamics. Yet the wider Caribbean, marked by histories of forced movement, mobility, and resistance, remains central to how contemporary migration crises are experienced, narrated and addressed. This edited volume aims to foreground Caribbean epistemologies, regional solidarities, and contextually grounded policy responses, highlighting the synergy of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) and European Union - Latin America and the Caribbean EU-LAC) network.

We welcome chapters that extend, revise, or emerge from conference presentations, as well as new contributions that align with the thematic scope of the project.

Chapters may fall into (but are not limited to) any of the following themes:

  • Language, Power, and Pedagogy in Transnational and Interregional EU-LAC Migration   Contexts

  • Child-Centred Education Access in Europe-CELAC Migration Contexts

  • Migrant Economies and Labour in a Globalised Economy
