About the event
Join Us for a Timely Conversation: Between the EU and Latin America: Geopolitical Shifts, Populist Polarization, and Disintegration Backlash
In a rapidly shifting global landscape, relations between the European Union and Latin America are entering a decisive new phase. The recent conclusion and ongoing ratification of the EU–MERCOSUR Association Agreement, one of the largest interregional agreements ever negotiated, signals both renewed ambition and deepening tensions within and between the two regions.
Join Dr. Daniel F. Wajner (Hebrew University of Jerusalem) and the Jean Monnet EULAS Network at IBEI, Barcelona, for a late afternoon workshop on May 14th. This event brings together critical perspectives on the evolving dynamics shaping EU–Latin America relations in 2026. Against the backdrop of geopolitical disruptions, from the war in Ukraine to shifting power competition involving the United States, China, and other emerging actors, interregional cooperation is being redefined by both external pressures and internal political transformations.
